Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been rumored to be returning for years now, but it was until the last few days that there had been any sort of real confirmation about him coming back. Even with the report earlier this week, there was still nothing official from the UFC regarding GSP agreeing to a new contract.
However, Lance Pugmire of the LA Times just said on social media that Dana White has just confirmed that St. Pierre has signed a new deal and will returning to the promotion.
Are the rumors of a potential fight with UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping also about to come to fruition? While his actual return fight has yet to be formally announced, it looks like the former welterweight kingpin is getting what he asked for in terms of a contract, so perhaps a middleweight title shot is also next.
Dana White just made it official to me: @GeorgesStPierre is back in the UFC. Signed deal. More soon at @latimessports …
