Dana White Calls Tyron Woodley A “Drama Queen” Over Race Comments

UFC President Dana White shared his opinion on UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley on Friday.

“He’s a smart guy, he’s a good-looking kid,” White said on ESPN Radio’s Russell and Kanell. “He’s explosive. He’s got knockout power. But he’s a bit of a drama queen.”

White called Woodley a “drama queen” when asked about Woodley’s accusations of him being treated differently by the UFC and the fans based on his race. He went on to say the fans would treat Woodley differently if he acted more like UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor. White talked about McGregor’s willingness to fight anyone at anytime.

“If Tyron Woodley had that attitude, Tyron Woodley would be a massive star,” White said. “But he does these things where he literally says on Instagram, when they know who’s next, who’s supposed to fight next, he’ll go on social media and say, ‘I’m not fighting him. I don’t want to fight him. I think I want to fight this guy or that guy.’

“That’s not what people want to hear. People don’t want to hear that. And then what he does is he’ll start fighting and arguing with people on social media. Then he wonders why when we show up to a press conference, the whole crowd is booing him. They’re not booing him because he’s black. There’s tons of black guys fighting in the UFC, you know what I mean?”

White’s comments may come as a surprise due to the fact he attended the SuperBowl with Woodley last Sunday.

Woodley is scheduled to defend his welterweight title at UFC 209 on March 4. He will defend his title against Stephen Thompson for the second time. In November, at UFC 205, Woodley and Thompson’s fight ended in a majority draw resulting in an immediate rematch.
