Ultimate Fighting Championship boss Dana White has watched both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor tease a cross-sport super fight and he finally revealed what has to happen in order for the fight to become a reality. Apparently, Conor’s UFC contract must end before negotiations can start.
White mentioned weeks ago that if Mayweather and McGregor wanted to make a fight happen, it would have to go through White and the rest of the officials at the UFC. However, White was recently spotted in Las Vegas, Nevada and was questioned by TMZ Sports how those negotiations were going, if at all. White responded, “We’re nowhere [with the McGregor/Mayweather negotiations].”
McGregor, the UFC Lightweight Champion, may already have his next fight decided for him according to White. With Khabib Nurmagoedov and Tony Ferguson’s fight for the interim lightweight championship just around the corner, White mentioned McGregor could be facing the victor of that fight.
“I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts and the winner of Khabib and Ferguson.”
White also previously mentioned, “He’s under contract with me. How would I let somebody take this guy that I built and do it without me? That would be the stupidest move in history.”
