The UFC will debut the female 145 pound weight class next week in the UFC 208 main event when Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie fight for the first ever UFC featherweight female title.
In an interview with USA Today Sports over Facebook Live, UFC president Dana White cleared the air by providing his opinion on some of the top fighters within the sport. UFC featherweight Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino was among the many to be mentioned.
When asked about the ensuing UFC 208 featherweight bout between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie, White explained the why’s and what the plans for Cris Cyborg are. The UFC boss confirmed that they made the division for Cris, who is currently awaiting her punishment for failing a drug test for non performance enhancers.
“Holly and Germaine…we were going through some stuff with Cris Cyborg at the time. We built that division for Cris Cyborg.”
White continued,
“We’ll see how this thing plays out with Cris Cyborg. If she doesn’t get some kind of huge suspension here, then she’ll be back to take on whoever wins.”
Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie will be fighting for the inaugural UFC featherweight title at UFC 208 at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 2017, live on pay-per-view.
