Since last year, talks have surfaced of a potential boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing great, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.. The rumblings have gotten louder and the fight now seems to be more than just a pipe dream.
Thursday on his Instagram, McGregor released a short video of a boxing sparring session. “Money’ hasn’t commented on the video but that didn’t stop his father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr. who at first didn’t see the video either but
“I haven’t seen it,” Mayweather Sr. told Eyes on the Game outside of Mayweather’s gym. “It wouldn’t make a difference if I did see it because whatever he plans on doing or whatever he plans on doing, it ain’t going to work.”
Reporter Helen Yee took out her phone and showed the video to Mayweather Sr.. At first he didn’t know who McGregor was. Baffled at what he was seeing, the elder Mayweather tore into the bombastic Irishman and made a proclamation if his son doesn’t end up fighting McGregor.
“His boxing skills is nothing,” Mayweather Sr. exclaimed. “I’ll beat his (expletive) myself. I’m not impressed at all. No. If my son decides he didn’t want to do it, I’ll take it over and I’ll do it and beat his (expletive). I guarantee you, I’ll beat his (expletive). Just the way he’s fighting now (in the video), I’ll beat his (expletive). He can’t whoop me with that right there. And I’m a 63 year-old man. I’ll beat the hell out of him.”
If his son decides to take the fight against McGregor, Mayweather Sr. has all the faith in the world that he will get the job done.
“I would love to see it because I know Conor is going to get knocked out and beat the hell up,” Mayweather, Sr. proclaimed.
Hmmm… A 63-year-old former boxing great and famed trainer against an MMA champion? These days, who knows.
