Homeowner Uses Jiu-Jitsu Skills On Burglar

MMA has slowly seeped its way into mainstream culture over the past few years. Still, some simply do not understand it. The technique that forms it, the philosophies that guide it and the culture that binds it, these are all important elements of the sport. For Josue Ortiz, it was time for an unfortunate learning experience.

In Fort Myers, Florida, one Josue Ortiz was caught attempting to steal power tools from a home owner’s garage. Unfortunate for Ortiz, that homeowner was Brian Burch, a practitioner of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

A large man with a background in wrestling, Burch has been studying Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for two years now. He has children, so Ortiz is quite lucky that they were not home at the time.

“Once we got to the ground, he started pushing and fighting me, and I hit him one time. If the kids had been here, I probably would have been even angrier.” Birch told NBC2 News.

Ortiz is currently still in jail, healing from his poor choices of the day.
