Middleweight champion Michael Bisping received a lot of flack when he faced Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in October. Bisping won the fight by unanimous decision, but the “Count” got criticized for taking a fight against the then 46-year-old fighter.
On his radio show, “Countdown” on Sirius XM, the Englishman responded to the criticism and put the onus on the UFC and president Dana White for the rematch against Henderson. He says he will fight whoever the number one contender is even if it’s Yoel Romero whose he’s been critical of in the past for failing a USADA administered drug test.
“Well, of course,” Bisping said on his . “I’m the champion. I have to fight the number one contender. I’ve never ever had a problem with doing that. Let me just say thid again for millionth time with no disrespect to Dana White but he just loves his twisted version of reality. He says, “Oh, Bisping wanted the Henderson fight.” No, UFC wanted me to fight Dan Henderson so I took Dan Henderson. I’m the champion. I got to face the number one contender. If that little scumbag is the number one contender then that’s who I’m going to fight. Failing GSP or the UFC contacted me and says, “Hey, do you want to do a mega-fight for millions of dollars with GSP, then that’s who I’ll fight”.”
A knee injury has Bisping currently on the shelf but is looking to get back into action possibly at UFC 211 on May 13 which is headlined by heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defending his title against former champ Junior dos Santos.
