UFC strawweights Randa Markos and Carla Esparza have both received upgrades in their professional careers, as Markos has made her way to number nine in the official UFC strawweight rankings. The “Cookie Monster,” on the other hand, has marched her way down five spots to the number eight on the official list.
Markos defeated Esparza via split decision at UFC Fight Night 105 last weekend in Halifax. Yet, she seems to have been granted a ranking lower than her opponent.
Esparza’s overall record stands a little taller, at 11-4. Markos has reached a professional record of 7-4.
UFC’s official website declares, “Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound.”
With a larger record and potential media support, it is understandable that Esparza could achieve a higher ranking, even with a loss to the “Quiet Storm.”
