Bellator MMA was gearing up to have a historic night in the SAP Center in San Jose, California for “Bellator 172” where Fedor Emelianenko was scheduled to make his company debut. However, an illness suffered by opponent Matt Mitrione would force Emelianenko off the card altogether promoting Patricky Freire and Josh Thomson’s co-main event bout to main event status.
Bellator still saw a great deal of success in ratings on Saturday night with the likes of Josh Koscheck, Cheick Kongo, Thomson, and Freire filling out the main card and they were paid for their efforts.
