UFC Heavyweight Travis Browne broke his silence on his girlfriend, former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, following her most recent loss.
In December, at UFC 207, Rousey returned to the UFC after a 13-month absence to fight UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes. Just 48 seconds into the fight, Nunes defeated Rousey by TKO.
“She’s doing great,” Browne said. “She’s a great woman. You know, that’s another thing we have to be careful about. People may try to get to her through me, or whatever, or this or that, I’ve learned my lesson. In that aspect of things, in that case, she’s doing great and she’s in a good place. What she is doing is up to her to let people know.”
Browne later discussed the possibility of Rousey retiring from the sport, and UFC President Dana White’s recent comments saying he thinks she is done with MMA.
“Her and I haven’t had that talk,” Browne said. “For her, that’s going to be a decision that she is going to make. But honestly, I don’t know. I think everyone is so eager to give their opinions, but you kinda need to go to the source. In my opinion, opinions are like ****. Nobody wants to see it or hear it. That’s up to her and the way that she is going to deal with things. She has her team and her group that deals with that kind of stuff. When the time comes, she’s going to do it her way and that’s what people, who support her, are going to appreciate. She’s just going to do it her way like she’s done everything else. It’s her way.”
Browne is scheduled to headline an upcoming UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 19 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He will fight heavyweight prospect Derrick Lewis, who is on a five-fight win streak in the UFC.
