UFC heavyweight Travis Browne recently shared his thoughts on his upcoming opponent Derrick Lewis.
Browne will fight Lewis in the main event of an upcoming UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 19 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
“The guy wanted to fight me and now he’s going to have his chance,” Browne said. “The thing about this sport is, you will be held accountable for your words come a certain date. He called me out and he’s going to get the opportunity. I don’t let it fester. Yeah, it can motivate you when a guy thinks he can beat you. And yeah, you take it personal, but if that’s what you need to get you to the cage from fight night, then you have a problem. If you’re looking for sources of motivation, outside of this is going to be a fight, then I feel like you’re trying to make up for something.”
Browne is currently on a two-fight losing streak in the UFC. He is coming off a decision loss in September to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum. In July, Browne lost to another former champion Cain Velasquez by TKO.
Lewis is on a five-fight win streak in the UFC. He is coming off a TKO win over Shamil Abdurakhimov in December. Lewis’ win streak also includes a split-decision win over Roy Nelson and a knockout win over Gabriel Gonzaga.
