Cody McKenzie burst onto the MMA scene on season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter” with his off the cuff character who went pro wrestling by naming his go-to-move, “The McKenzillotine” which is a guillotine choke. McKenzie went 3-4 in the UFC before getting released 2013 after losing to Sam Stout.
Since then, McKenzie has been on an unusual path. He donated blood just to make weight for a fight, got disqualified for headbutting his opponent, retired for a short time and when he’s not fighting, he’s working in marijuana production at warehouse in Washington state owned by his girlfriend’s cousin.
Now, McKenzie has taken to the route of bare knuckle fighting as he recently fought for Bare Knuckle Boxing in the United Kingdom against their middleweight champion Jimmy Sweeney. Sweeney proved to be too much for the UFC veteran, knocking him down five times and the referee finally decided he had seen enough and stopped the fight.
Let’s hope for McKenzie’s sake and more importantly his safety that we don’t see him back in this realm.
McKenzie last fought in MMA in October, losing to another UFC vet, Joe RIggs by first-round TKO for a regional promotion called Z Promotions- Fight Night Medicine Hat 2.
