Commission Increases Fine For Fighters Who Miss Weight

The California State Athletic Commission has doubled down on missed weight penalization. With new punitive measures in place, the CSAC is looking to minimize chances for fighters to falter at weigh-ins.

Weigh-ins have become a ball of stress for UFC fighters and promoters alike. Weight cutting is a daunting task, one some fighters feel can be deadly. On the other end, major promotions are having to drop fights from their cards due to weight management issues. At UFC 209, Khabib Nurmagomedov was rushed to the hospital, forcing the fighter to miss weigh ins entirely. He had 6 lbs. left to cut to make weight. UFC 209 was left without a co-main event after the incident.

While, normally, a fighter missing weight is penalized by forcing them to forfeit 20% of their show money, the CSAC is not appeased. For them, grander measures need to be taken.

MMA Fighting recently reported that the CSAC will now force fighters who miss weight to forfeit 20% of their show money and win bonus, assuming they win.
