The epic “what if” cross-promotional bout between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has been seamlessly shifting from hypothesis to potential actuality over the past weeks. For Mayweather, it’s up to McGregor, or so he seems to have claimed in a recent interview.
Mayweather has been traveling the UK as part of his fan oriented meet-and-great tour. Along the way, the multi-division champion boxer scored an interview with UK’s The Telegraph.
In the interview with The Telegraph, Mayweather said
“McGregor has bosses. I don’t have a boss. If Conor McGregor really wants to fight me, we can make it happen. But is he blowing smoke up everybody’s [expletive]?
“In one fight I made more than Conor McGregor has made in his whole career. The difference between me and him is this: He has to fight. If I was him and I was smart, before I lose again in the UFC, I’d let Floyd Mayweather kick my [expletive] for a lot of money. It makes business sense.” Mayweather told The Telegraph.
As far as McGregor talking to his “bosses,” UFC President Dana White recently said that the cross-promotional bout is not anywhere close to set up. White is looking for McGregor to fight in the UFC and defend his title.
