Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Tony Ferguson’s fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov may have been scrapped, but that doesn’t mean the fight won’t go down. If the fight takes place and Nurmagomedov is unable to make weight for a second time in a row, Ferguson wants the belt regardless.
Ferguson was visibly upset at the early weigh-ins when it was revealed that Nurmagomedov would be unfit to fight. Later on in the night, Ferguson wished Nurmagomedov a speedy recovery and insisted that fans continue to purchase the pay-per-view and to have fun at “UFC 209”. Now that all of the dust has settled, Ferguson isn’t playing “Mr. Nice Guy” anymore and he hopes to secure the belt no matter what in a botched rematch. Check out what he had to say to ESPN about the risk of Nurmagomedov pulling out again:
“The terms have got to be fair, with assurances that if he doesn’t make weight, that’s my belt. And my show money, and my win money.”
“I feel I should get my show money. It is what it is. It stinks. But I think I should get my show money, so we can move forward and let’s give the crowd what they want. This is a badass fight. I’m willing to go, but it has to be fair terms. If I choose to fight Khabib again, we have to have assurances.”
