In the absence of a championship caliber AKA heavyweight, Luke Rockhold is apparently up for a fight with his teammate Cain Velasquez’s rival Fabricio Werdum.
It’s not unheard of for fighter to bounce from Heavyweight to middleweight. One need look no further than former UFC champion Rashad Evans. Evans won The Ultimate Fighter season 2 at heavyweight, won the belt at light-heavyweight and now fights at middleweight.
To his credit, Rockhold is larger than a Rashad Evans.
Luke Rockhold and Fabricio Werdum both shared slots on the Strikeforce roster before the UFC acquired their contracts.
For whatever reason, Luke wants this fight bad.
Ariel Helwani has the scoop:
Rockhold is pushing hard for a fight with Werdum. He's willing to move up to HW. Asked UFC for it this week after FW's #TheMMAHour comments.
