While Demian Maia is set to face a tough opponent at UFC 211, he is ready for a title shot. He even joked that the UFC should swap his current opponent for the champion.
UFC welterweights Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal are set to fight at UFC 211 in May. Ranked No. 3 in the welterweight division, Maia will be facing an opponent three ranks below himself.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Maia recently joked that he wouldn’t mind the UFC swapping out Masvidal for the champion Tryon Woodley.
When prompted the question by MMA Fighting, Maia said
“Yeah, they could. Maybe you can talk to them for me, would be great. But, it is what it is and I need to fight. I will be focused. I will be training and I will be looking for this fight with Jorge Masvidal. And, I know he’s pretty tough. It will be a tough fight. People ask about the title, but I have a pretty tough opponent, so I can not think about the title right now.”
