Every fight starts standing. You have heard it a million times before, and even though every fight starts out standing the chances of an athlete landing a knockout blow in the first minute are extremely low. The feeling out process is one of the most important aspects of the fight game; If it lasts too long, the crowd will be disappointed. If the fighters skip it and the fight happens to go the distance, neither fighter will have found their range and try to adapt and make up for it late in the round.
