Ultimate Fighting Championship’s lightweight division is suffering from a serious log jam after Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced out of his co-main event bout at “UFC 209”. He was expected to fight Tony Ferguson to decide the fate of the interim lightweight championship, but that fight never happened and the division is left without an active champion since Conor McGregor is still sitting on the sidelines.
Fight fans were hoping that Nurmagomedov would be able to resume training right away, but the illness suffered from the weight-cut seem to be doing a number on him. There are reports saying that Nurmagomedov will be fit to fight again in two months, and with Ramadan ending on June 25, 2017 Nurmagomedov may not be able to get back in the octagon until September:
Khabib's father said. That the recovery will take 2 months! Probably Khabib will fight in September!! @ZidanSports

Good chance we won’t see Khabib in the Octagon until after Ramadan. https://t.co/t9JH0dOk31

With the UFC’s top two lightweights sidelined for the foreseeable future, should Ferguson try and get another opportunity at the interim championship against someone else? Share your thoughts and make your predictions in the comment section below!
