Lorenz Larkin did not need to climb his way to the top of the welterweight division in Bellator.
Less than a week after signing with Scott Coker’s Bellator, Larkin has already received a shot at Douglas Lima’s Bellator Welterweight Championship. The two will collide in the televised main event of “Bellator NYC” on pay-per-view, just after “Bellator 180” wraps up on Spike.
Larkin’s path to the welterweight championship started in the octagon when he was a top-tier welterweight. The fighter is currently riding a two-fight win streak after defeating Jorge Masvidal and Neil Magny. Negotiations with the UFC fell through and it wasn’t long before Larkin was fielding offers from the free agent market.
Fighting under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden for a Bellator championship on pay-per-view does was rather enticing, and Larkin inked a deal with Bellator.
The champion, Lima, won the championship when he knocked Andrey Koreshkov out cold at Bellator 164 last November. Will he walk out with the gold still strapped around his waist in a successful first title defense, or will Larkin make the ultimate impact upon his debut?
