TAM Head Coach Addresses Sonnen’s Claim That PVZ Has Left Team Alpha Male

It appears the rumors of Paige VanZant leaving Team Alpha Male may not be true after all.

VanZant went on a tear in her first three fights, handily defeating Kailin Curran, Felice Herrig, and Alex Chambers before getting stopped and defeated by Rose Namajunas. She bounced back after a spectacular season on “Dancing With The Stars” when she knocked Bec Rawlings out, but again suffered defeat at the hands of former atomweight champion Michelle Waterson.

Bellator fighter Chael Sonnen recently came out and said that VanZant would be training alongside him in the same gym full time but Team Alpha Male Head Coach Justin Buchholz squashed those rumors quickly. When he was asked by a fan whether or not VanZant was on the team he said, “I thought she was [still with Team Alpha Male]. She’s been out of the gym. She bought a house in Oregon. As far as I know, she is still on the team. But, she did buy a house in Oregon and she’s been out taking care of like family and show business stuff. But, I’m expecting her to come back anytime.”

After posting herself training with UFC featherweight Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino last month, rumors have been spreading that UFC strawweight Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant is leaving her home camp, Team Alpha Male.

While VanZant’s position with the team has not been officially announced, Buchholz seems to believe that she is still with the team. VanZant is coming off of a loss to Michelle Waterson via first round rear-naked choke at UFC on Fox 22.
