Khabib Nurmagomedov has thrown caution to the wind in the days leading up to his fight with Tony Ferguson, having fun with his interviews while freely speaking his mind. The challenger is in a relaxed state walking into his co-main event bout with Tony Ferguson where they will fight for the right to become the very first interim lightweight champion in Ultimate Fighting Championship history.
Conor McGregor stepped into the octagon at “UFC 205” and defeated Eddie Alvarez with ease, becoming the lightweight champion. McGregor would later announce that he would be taking a brief break from the sport to tend to his growing family, and needless to say Nurmagomedov was not impressed with the performance or the belt McGregor won. He told the media during his open workouts [via. MMA Fighting]:
“I think this is the real championship fight. I don’t care about [Conor McGregor]. You guys know his Uncle Dana give him gift. He jump over all contenders and he fight for the title. I no understand this fight. He catch [Eddie Alvarez] a couple times, he go down, Eddie Alvarez. This fight, for me, is fake fight.”
“We have real fight now. This is the people’s main event. This is one of the biggest fights in 2017, of all-time in the UFC, and you guys think I think about other guys? Of course, no. I’m going to make my win streak a 25-win streak, take the belt, become the new UFC lightweight and undisputed, undefeated champion. And afterward, we’ll see what happens.”
“UFC 209” takes place this Saturday and featured two championship fights. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov will throw down in the co-main event while Tyron Woodley defends his welterweight championship against Stephen Thompson in the main event.
