UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley walked into the octagon as the underdog and walked out with the championship still slung over his shoulder. While neither man truly gained any momentum to heavily sway the judges in one direction or the other, Woodley did just enough to defeat Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson by way of majority decision.
There was a moment after the fight when the judges took a bit to tally their scores; Fighters and fans alike thought it could have resulted in another draw. Check out the fighters’ immediate reactions to the fight below:
I wish someone would call me explosive but I guess it's racist now ?

Having your back against the cage limits you greatly. #ufc209

You can't try and point fight Thomson. U gotta go at him.
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) March 5, 2017
Skirting the cage w/ back to the fence has plagued T Wood in fights he has lost. No room to escape strikes and limits your offense.

This time the fans have lost two rounds. #justsaying #ufc209 https://t.co/ZnLIiWjH07

— Tito Ortiz (@titoortiz) March 5, 2017
Great point by Dom. Wonderboy is not doing that much either.
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) March 5, 2017
Yikes ??? @TWooodley & @WonderboyMMA are both being a leeeeeetle cautious & no significant damage or attempts…maybe later…@ufc pic.twitter.com/mc5ACLqaJ3

The Boos are real on the arena tonight
— Brian Ortega (@BrianTcity) March 5, 2017
Wonderboy looks like he's trying to bait him to rush forward, and Woodley has the look of a man that doesn't enjoy fighting. #UFC209
— Dan Hardy (@danhardymma) March 5, 2017
20-18 Wonderboy. If you want to be considered the best welterweight ever, you can't wait for ten minutes before you start fighting. #UFC209
— Dan Hardy (@danhardymma) March 5, 2017
Tyron had the good scramble ground exchange, but I feel he has been getting ring controlled the entire fight. Hard to get a gauge @ufc
— Alpha Cat Zingano (@CatZingano) March 5, 2017
I guess Woodley took that round. Not impressed though. The 4th was his best round in the last fight. Let's see if he picks it up. #UFC209
— Dan Hardy (@danhardymma) March 5, 2017
Crowd chanting, "Fight!!!" That's not what you want to hear in there. #ufc209
— The Spartan (@EliasTheodorou) March 5, 2017
Even if he wins by spectacular knockout, it's too late to save this performance. #UFC209
— Dan Hardy (@danhardymma) March 5, 2017
Just WOW #UFC209 ✌?
— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) March 5, 2017

— Brendan Schaub (@BrendanSchaub) March 5, 2017
10-8 ? Another draw?
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) March 5, 2017
I think @TWooodley wins that fight. Not bias, but wonderboy played the safest shit ever. Based on damage woodley wins that.
— Erik Jon Koch (@NEWBREED04) March 5, 2017
Fucking BS ? worst fight ever ? @ufc
— Manny Gamburyan (@MannyGamburyan) March 5, 2017
Let's just chalk Woodley vs Wonderboy up as a clash of styles and NEVER do that fight again. Mmmmmkay great. #UFC209
— Brendan Schaub (@BrendanSchaub) March 5, 2017
Wow. Woodly takes it. I'm not surprised, but that was surprising. @UFC @TWooodley @WonderboyMMA
