Arnold Allen and Makwan Amirkhani pranked Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Friday evening at the weigh-ins ceremony with their fake fight, but nothing was fake about the main card opener on UFC Fight Pass at “UFC Fight Night 107”.
Allen was taken down to the mat immediately by Amirkhani who was working for a guillotine choke and D’Arace Choke early on. Allen got right back up to his feet and landed a takedown on Amirkhani, proving he could match the up-and-comers unexpected pace. Once the fight made it back standing, both fighters unloaded with reckless abandon. Amirkhani likely walked out of the opening round with ten points due to his three takedowns, and he secured another at the start of the second.
Amirkhani locked in a guillotine choke right at the start of the second round after securing the aforementioned takedown but transitioned to a D’Arce Choke. Like last round, Allen showcased great takedown defense and ultimately made his way to top position.
Allen hoped to showcase his offensive submission skills but Amirkhani was quick to escape the Peruvian neck tie and end up on top. The round would end with Amirkhani on top but by the time the final round rolled by, it was Allen who was taking control with the striking.
Both fighters had controlled the fight in their own aspect; Allen was better in the striking department while Amirkhani dominated on the ground. The final round saw both fighters try their hand at the other’s expertise but it didn’t pay off for either man.
Allen nearly put the fight away with a rear naked choke at the end of the fight, but Amirkhani was saved by the buzzer.
