UFC Lightweight (and self-proclaimed featherweight) Champion Conor McGregor has made it known that he is willing to fight anybody inside the octagon as long as the money is right. While he was quick to dismiss names like Tony Ferguson, Jose Aldo, and Khabib Nurmagomedov, one name that kept popping up as a potential next opponent was the returning Georges St-Pierre.
UFC President Dana White revealed on Wednesday morning that St-Pierre would be challenging for the middleweight championship in the second half of 2017. When asked just how close the UFC was to booking a super-fight between McGregor and St-Pierre, White laughed it off simply saying:
“[We were] not even close [to making that fight happen]. Georges said he could make 155 pounds, I think he wants to come back — Listen. Let’s be honest here. Everyone wants to take a shot at Michael Bisping, you know?”
