Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White shocked the world when he revealed that Georges St-Pierre would be next in line for a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship. Michael Bisping, the reigning champion, sits atop a weight class that features multiple fighters who should already be contenders for the belt.
Instead, fight fans and fighters alike are left scratching their head as to why GSP gets an immediate title shot for a weight class he’s never fought in before. Regardless, top contender Yoel Romero will NOT be losing his shot at the gold.
The middleweight will be sitting on the sidelines for the better part of the year, waiting for the winner to emerge so he can challenge for the strap. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed the news:
For those wondering what this all means for @YoelRomeroMMA, I'm told he's going back to waiting for the winner of Bisping-GSP, title shot.
