If it has been said before, it needs to be said again: Professional wrestling and combat sports are two worlds that are better left separate. There are exceptions every now and again, but if there was anybody who could cross that boundary and do anything he wants it’s the gigantic Andre The Giant.
Andre The Giant will go down in professional wrestling history as one of the all-time great professional wrestlers who could actually get the work done in the ring. That’s why when the opportunity for Giant to become a cross-sport star presented itself, Vince McMahon Sr. knew it would be a no-brainer to put on a fight with Chuck Wepner.
Wepner, who has stepped into the ring with the likes of Muhammad Ali and Randy Neumann, was a mainstay in the northeast heavyweight boxing scene. As a matter of fact, once Sylvester Stallone watched Wepner’s fight with Ali, he wrote the script of Rocky!
This vintage footage shows what happens when the worlds of professional wrestling and combat sports mix. It may not be pretty, and there may be some cringe moments, but seeing the two worlds work together is always an interesting sight. Check out the video below:
