Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu standout and mixed martial arts prospect Mackenzie Dern has impressed in every single outing she’s had. However, she has had some trouble in the past with making weight and it appears as if those troubles caught up with her again this weekend.
Dern was expected to kick off this year’s UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship with a bout against brown belt Amal Amjahid, but Dern has not made the 55KG weight limit in time and she has been scratched from the tournament, FloGrappling reports.
Dern has made a major impact on the MMA scene when she made her debut last July, defeating Kenia Rosas by way of unanimous decision. She would proceed to submit Montana Stewart in July with a wild rear naked choke in the first round. She went on to defeat Katherine Roy in her most recent outing.
UFC President Dana White has made it known that he’s been keeping an eye on the young mixed martial arts talent, saying, “We’ve been checking her out. She’s a little bad ass. You never know how good somebody’s going to be until they get in there and start fighting the best in the world.”
