In a perfect world, the mixed martial arts and combat sports communities are filled with athletes who practice honor and respect inside and outside of the ring. Unfortunately, there are countless amounts of hot-heads who cannot take a loss and in the most extreme cases, look to get even for feeling like they’ve been wronged.
This tragic story is the perfect example of why learning the lesson of taking something positive away from your losses and learning from them is crucial to learn in the early stages of a fighter’s career, because one fighter cost one security guard his life upon hearing his controversial decision.
This incident all took place outside of Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on March 24, 2017 and was actually all caught on tape. Judge Udom Deekrachang had arrived at the arena early that day and a black car can be seen pulling up behind him. A passenger then got out of the car and assault Udom with a club, completely catching him off guard.
Security guard Anucha Prathumma hoped to come in and save Udom from the beatdown, but the passenger who was beating the judge up pulled out a pistol and shot Prathumma in the chest. Jiraphan Koisap was later caught by the police and questioned as to why he did it. He explained that he was the victim of a corrupt judging decision. He did not intend to kill the guard, but his accomplice Yutthana Kularbmuang pulled out the gun.
