New Angle Shows Mousasi’s Knees Were Indeed Illegal Strikes

UFC 210 did not go without its controversy. Last weekend’s big fight night held a contentious co-main event.

Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman was looking to pull himself out of a two fight losing streak in the night’s co-main event. But, the fight was cut short, as opponent Gegard Mousasi landed a contentious TKO victory.

The referee put a stop to the fight after Mousasi landed a series of knees to the head of his opponent. The referee initially believed the knees to be illegal, giving Weidman a five minute rest time as a result. However, the strikes were later determined legal and Weidman as unable to continue. As a result, Weidman was handed a bitter TKO loss and the night’s co-main event cultivated some controversy.

New footage of one of Mousasi’s strikes has revealed that the decision of legality concerning the blows may be even more complicated than initially believed.
