Conor McGregor’s and Jose Aldo’s rivalry spanned across the majority of 2015 and could be considered one of the better feuds that year. The two clearly did not like each other and it was easy to see in years prior that the two fighters’ paths would eventually cross in the octagon.
Long before McGregor met him inside the octagon, Aldo had torn through each and every challenger that Ultimate Fighting Championship officials put in front of him. Aldo was the sole champion of the division holding the crown for nearly 2000 days.
McGregor had been carving a path of his own to championship contendership, dominating the likes of Diego Brandão, Dustin Poirier, and Dennis Siver before getting his shot at Jose. The fight was scheduled for “UFC 189” and was one of the most expensive pay-per-views the UFC has promoted.
That fight never happened, but McGregor would go on to defeat last-minute replacement Chad Mendes to become the interim champion. In the weeks leading up to McGregor and Aldo’s second meeting at “UFC 194”, the two had talked an unbelievable amount of trash to each other. For the first time ever, you can hear the audio from McGregor’s corner talking trash before the fight as well:
