The fight saw a slow start as the feeling out process was a lengthy one, but Taylor stuck to the center of the octagon and eventually found her footing and a comfortable striking distance. Neither fighter landed anything in the opening round, and there was no momentum laying in either corner in between rounds.

Penne did a fantastic job at finding a hole in Taylor’s guard, lighting her up early in the second round but Taylor proved she could do the same moments later. The two continued to circle around the octagon and pepper each other with shots and at one point, the round was so even they had both landed a collective thirty-two significant strikes.

Taylor ended the round strong when she blasted Penne with shots to the body, but the referee stepped in the moment the round ended to make sure they had a clean break.

Penne changed the attack to the body of Taylor who showed signs of fatigue in between the second and third rounds. Penne was able to secure a takedown in the middle of the round, but Taylor fought her way back to her feet almost immediately. Taylor separated and the two met in the middle of the octagon much to the appreciation of the Nashville crowd.

Taylor got cracked on the jaw with a Penne right hand in a round that favored the former strawweight championship challenger. With just eight seconds left in the round, Penne secured one final takedown to sway the momentum in her favor.
