Prior To Main Event, Artem Lobov Requested His UFC Release — Here’s Why!

UFC Fight Night 108 is set to go off inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee tomorrow night on April 22. In the main event, featherweight contender Cub Swanson will be facing competitor Artem Lobov.

While Lobov will be enjoying his first headlining event in his career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship tomorrow night, the fighter was apparently near done with the promotion just prior to setting up this recent match-up.

In an interview with News Talk, Lobov revealed that he was looking to be released after his recent loss to Alex White at UFC Fight Night 82. With the bout putting the fighter on a two fight losing streak, Lobov was looking for a way out.

“I messaged the UFC and told them to release me. I explained that I understood that I had two losses and if they were going to cut me it would be fair. I told them I had found a champion outside of the UFC to fight, who I felt was the best unsigned talent outside of the promotion.

“I was confident that the other promotion wanted to put the fight on, but then the UFC came back to me with another matchup. I took it because UFC is where I want to be.” Lobov explained.
