White Confirms Jon Jones Is Not Eligible For Main Event Status Against D.C.

Ultimate Fighting Championship is on the verge of getting one of their biggest stars back in time for the summer schedule of fights. Jon “Bones” Jones’ suspension stemming from his “UFC 200” drug test failure is coming to an end in July and the former champion could be coming back sooner rather than later.

The seeds were planted, yet again, for a championship fight between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and Jones when Cormier talked trash to him after defeating Anthony Johnson at “UFC 210”. Just in case Jones wanted a tune-up fight, Cormier aimed his insults at both Jones and Jimi Manuwa.

Even though Cormier and Manuwa continued their verbal onslaught on social media the following days, it seems that Cormier will be moving on to try and fry bigger fish. UFC President Dana White revealed that if Jones wants it, he can come back and get a title fight at “UFC 214”.

White made a recent appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd and revealed that Jones will NOT be in the main event spot, however. He said [via. Fox Sports], “That’s a huge problem right now and that’s why I said he won’t headline a card. He will not be the main event…until he builds back the trust of the consumers and me.”
