Ultimate Fighting Championship fans were shocked to find out that they would not get to see Kelvin Gastelum take the next step of his career at middleweight, being forced out of his fight with Anderson “The Spider” Silva at “UFC 212” due to a flagged USADA test. Gastelum had tested positive for marijuana metabolites and was removed from the bout, leaving UFC officials scrambling last minute for an opponent.
It appears as if they have found a “Phenom” to step in for Gastelum, however.
Fighters Only Magazine is reporting that Vitor Belfort is the likely candidate to replace Gastelum at “UFC 212” in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold campaigned to become the late replacement, but it appears he has been looked over.
Belfort is actually coming off a loss to Gastelum at UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Gastelum, and securing a victory over the man he was supposed to face in Silva at “UFC 212” would put the forty-year-old phenom in a better place in the rankings.
