Ultimate Fighting Championship suffered a major blow to their “UFC 209” card when it was revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov was in no shape to fight scheduled opponent, Tony Ferguson. The two were expected to clash in the co-main event to decide the fate of the interim championship, but months removed from fight night and Conor McGregor is still the sole champion of the weight class.
That may not be the case for much longer.
MMA Imports has it under good authority that there are talks of another interim lightweight championship matchup, this time between Ferguson and Edson Barboza.
Edson Barboza is currently ranked fifth in the lightweight division and is coming fresh off another vicious knockout win over Beniel Dariush. There is currently no date or venue lined up for this bout, so be sure to stay tuned to MMA Imports for more on this story as it develops.
