Ultimate Fighting Championship made their way to Buffalo, New York to put on a spectacle for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Daniel Cormier managed to defend his title once again as he submitted Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the second round of their main event bout.
Chris Weidman and Gegard Mousasi were on their way to having a phenomenal co-main event bout, but drama reared its ugly head in and the bout ended in controversial fashion. Weidman believed his hands were on the mat while Mousasi was throwing what would be an illegal knee. However, the knee was ruled legal and Weidman already informed doctors he was unable to continue.
Cynthia Calvillo made her return to the octagon and took out Pearl Gonzalez. The bout saw both women land their fair share of strikes, but Calvillo was dominant in every aspect of the fight and it was clear that if it made its way to a judges’ decision the Team Alpha Male standout would get her hands raised in victory. She didn’t even need that to happen, however, as Calvillo was able to submit Gonzalez.
All of the fighters who stepped into the octagon were slapped with some kind of suspension, whether it be a lengthy one or just a measly seven days.
