Anthony “Rumble” Johnson stepped into the octagon at “UFC 210” prepared to give Daniel Cormier the biggest challenge of his life. “Rumble” knew walking into the fight that it would be his last, and he was hoping to go out on top with the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship slung over his shoulder.
“Rumble” looked great in the opening moments of the bout as he turned Cormier’s nose sideways with a headkick, but he resorted to wrestling after the exchange in what could be attributed to his quick downfall. “Rumble” tired himself out grappling on the mats, working hard to keep Cormier grounded.
Instead, Johnson ended up fatigued and was eventually worked into submission by Cormier. The bout ended nearly identical to their first meeting, and Johnson was an emotional mess after the bout. Not only did he retire with a loss, but he went away from his gameplan and tried to wrestle his way to victory.
Johnson has an amazing highlight reel of knockouts to his name and knows that he left the game as one of the more dominant fighters we’ve seen in the light heavyweight division. As Johnson made his way backstage, he was an emotional mess as he was embraced by Henri Hooft:
