UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping says he doesn’t care if the UFC creates an interim middleweight title.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Bisping talked about the possibility of the UFC creating an interim title in the middleweight division.
“I don’t give a flying (expletive) if they’re doing an interim title fight,” Bisping said. “If you want to do an interim title fight, if Yoel (Romero) and Anderson (Silva) want to do an interim title fight, if (Robert) Whittaker or Jacare or whoever, if you want to fight for an interim title I have no problem seeing that interim title strapped around your waist. Because you know what that means? That means you’re the number one contender. That’s all the belt means.”
Many of the top middleweight contenders in the UFC have become upset due to Bisping not defending his title against top-ranked opponents.
In October, the UFC booked Bisping’s first title defense against Dan Henderson. Bisping went on to win a decision. Since then, the UFC announced Bisping’s next title fight will be against former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre.
