Prior to his title fight against Chad Mendes at UFC 189, Conor McGregor had a life changing experience thanks to a young fan.
A young boy from Ireland was battling cancer. His final wish was to talk to McGregor, who was in Las Vegas in preparation for his first title fight in the UFC.
McGregor went on to talk to the boy over the phone as he was in the hospital. During the phone conversation, McGregor told him he was going to bring the UFC title back to Ireland. McGregor was also hoping to send the boy to Las Vegas to see McGregor.
However, the young boy tragically passed away due to his battle with leukemia. McGregor got emotional when talking about the young boy in an interview, which can be seen below.
McGregor went on to defeat Mendes and win the interim UFC featherweight title. He later went on to win two more UFC titles when he knocked out Jose Aldo for the featherweight championship and Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title.
