UFC President Dana White recently sat down with hip hop icon Snoop Dogg to discuss the mixed martial arts promotion. During their interview, the UFC president revealed on old text conversation he had with UFC lightweight champion Conor “Notorious” McGregor.
In the conversation, Dana White revealed that McGregor made his thoughts known to the president concerning the UFC 209 co-main event incident.
Top lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson were set to face off for the lightweight interim title. However, Nurmagomedov suffered weight management issues that sent the fighter to the hospital. Ferguson was offered a new opponent in Michael Johnson. However, the fighter turned it down and the co-main event was canceled.
“You know this (expletive) that went on with Tony Ferguson and Khabib[Nurmagomedov], right? You know what [McGregor] said to me? He text me and he says, ‘I can’t believe you’re going to pay that bum Tony Ferguson one dollar.’ “ White said.
“He goes, ‘He was there, made weight, and you lined up a fight for him with Michael Johnson and he turned it down? (expletive) bum. You shouldn’t pay him a dime.’ That’s Conor’s mentality.
“That’s one of the many things that I love about Conor McGregor.” The UFC president admitted.
