The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president has been wary of permitting Jon Jones a main event opportunity following the incident of UFC 200. However, things seem to have now changed.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones was pulled from his main event fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 due to being flagged by USADA for an anti-doping violation. Following the incident, UFC President Dana White swore off the former champion from competing in main events ever again.
However, Jon Jones is now set to face reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. Dana White told FOX Sports, as transcribed by Sherdog, “DC and Jon Jones will be the main event.
“I’m bringing in [Jimi] Manuwa to fight on the undercard there so if anything happens Jimi Manuwa will be ready to go and step in if that happens. I’ve said it a million times. I’m always worried about Jones. I’m gonna put Manuwa on this card to make sure that in Anaheim we have a fight.”
