UFC President Dana White seems to be excited about the UFC adding a fourth women’s division to its roster.
On Tuesday, White confirmed the UFC will begin promoting fights in the women’s flyweight division. The next season of The Ultimate Fighter will feature women fighting at 125 pounds with the winner receiving the inaugural UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship.
White broke the news to ESPN W and shared his thoughts about the division.
“Women’s fighting has become very popular. I waited for a while to pull the trigger on this division, and I think it’s time. I’m ready to do it now. There are a lot of 125-pound women out there fighting already. Now they’ll get the opportunity to fight in the UFC. We’ll have four women’s divisions, and as far as I’m concerned we can’t have enough.”
The next season of TUF will begin filming in July. The first women’s flyweight champion will be crowned during the show’s finale which will take place by the end of this year.
