UFC middleweight Kelvin Gastelum still wants to fight former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.
Gastelum was previously scheduled to fight Silva on June 3 at UFC 212 in Brazil. However, Gastelum tested positive for marijuana use and was taken off the fight card.
On Thursday, Gastelum apologized to Silva via Twitter and asked the former champion to fight on a different date.
“I can’t make it to the dance in Rio, how about we dance in New York in July?” Gastelum asked Silva.
Silva is still expected to fight at UFC 212, but the UFC has yet to book a replacement for him. Silva has been requesting an interim middleweight title fight against top contender Yoel Romero.
Gastelum is currently on a three-fight win streak and is undefeated as a middleweight in the UFC. He is coming off a TKO win over Vitor Belfort in March. Gastelum’s win streak also includes wins over Tim Kennedy and former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks.
