UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson recently shared his thoughts on when he would like to retire.
While talking to ESPN, Johnson said he would like to defend his flyweight title 20 times before retiring from MMA.
I hope I can get to 20. I’m on pace to get two or three fights per year, and I think I’ve got five or six years left in me,” Johnson said.
“Maybe I’ll get to something like 18 and walk away from the sport, retire as champion. I think 15 to 18 title defenses is something that would be in the record books forever.”
Johnson is coming off his 10th consecutive title defense, which ties him for the all-time record for most title defenses in the UFC. He shares the record with former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.
Johnson defeated Wilson Reis in his last fight. His historic win streak also includes wins over Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson, John Moraga, Ali Baguatinov, Chris Cariaso, Kyoji Horiguchi, and Tim Elliott.
