Just days before UFC 211, the pivotal flyweight fight between Sergio Pettis and Henry Cejudo was canceled.
On Wednesday, Cejudo revealed he suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from Saturday’s fight.
After discovering he would no longer be fighting at UFC 211, Pettis sent out a message via Instagram apologizing to his fans.
“Love my team for all the hard work and preparation for this bout. Unfortunately, Cejudo is injured and the fight is canceled,” Pettis wrote. “I wanna apologize to the supporters. This was out of my hands. Was excited to perform for y’all this Saturday in Dallas.”
A fight against Cejudo would have been the biggest of Pettis’ career. If he managed to defeat the former title challenger, Pettis would have likely been next in line to fight UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.
Pettis is on a three-fight win streak, which includes wins over former title challengers Chris Cariaso and John Moraga.
