Last night inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held its most recent big event. Some exhilarating bouts went down at UFC 211. While the night’s main event was a quick one, there were a few other fights that failed to go the distance.
Among them, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar faced off against up and coming star Yair Rodriguez. The former champion put on a dominant display as he pummeled his opponent with some ground and pound for two straight rounds.
Yair Rodriguez has made a reputation for his kick oriented striking, but the fighter was facing a wrestler and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner with a history of brutal ground and pound. The matchup ultimately proved to not be in Rodriguez’s favor.
After two rounds of being struck from ground and pound, Yair Rodriguez’s left eye began to swell to incredible proportions. When the fighter returned to his corner after the second round, officials took a look at the fighter’s wound and determined he was unable to continue.
Frankie Edgar earned a second round TKO victory over his opponent. An image of the damage Yair Rodriguez received can be viewed below.
