Last Saturday, Canelo Alvarez dominated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to win a one-sided unanimous decision.
Alvarez vs. Chavez Jr. was one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the year, and the pay-per-view numbers prove it.
While it’s too early to know the official pay-per-view buy rate, an ESPN reporter says he was given information that says the pay-per-view had at least one million buys.
One million pay-per-view buys would be a huge success for the boxing fight. It is rare for any sporting event, boxing, MMA, or professional wrestling, to sell that many pay-per-views.
These numbers are double what Floyd “Money” Mayweather did in his retirement fight and are huge numbers for the sport of boxing.
After Alvarez defeated Chavez Jr., it was announced Alvarez would fight Gennady Golovkin in a, even more, highly-anticipated fight. With Alvarez’s last fight doing such great numbers, his next fight may be able to break records.
No official numbers yet for #CaneloChavez PPV but I'm told it will be at least 1 million buys. A huge number for the fight. #boxing
