The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lost one of its welterweight competitors when Rory MacDonald decided to sign with rival promotion Bellator MMA last year. Now Rory MacDonald is looking to make a statement in his Bellator debut.
Rory “Red King” MacDonald is set to make his Bellator MMA debut at Bellator 179 on May 19. The fighter will be facing Paul Daley inside the cage. The fight will go down inside the Wembley Arena in London, England. Rory MacDonald recently spent some time with BJPenn.com to explain his battle plan for the big debut.
As transcribed by Bloody Elbow, MacDonald explained:
“Yea, absolutely I want to test out his wrestling and his ground game in general. With that being said, I don’t feel like it is going to be a bad thing for me if the fight stays standing. I like my chances on the feet as well. I will get my title shot right after I go out there and knock out (Paul) Daley.
“With that said, I don’t see a submission being out of the picture either. I feel like I have good chances of finishing the (Daley) fight with strikes or a submission.”
