Roy Nelson seems to be happy with his move from the UFC to Bellator MMA.
After his last fight, Nelson’s UFC contract expired, and the popular heavyweight fighter decided to jump ship to Bellator.
Nelson discussed his move on the latest edition of The MMA Hour.
“Yeah, I think it’s just one of those things — what’s best for my family, not what’s best for everybody else,” Nelson said. “The one thing about working with Scott Coker, I’ve never heard a bad thing about Scott Coker. And that means a lot, especially in our sport.”
Nelson is also happy to once again be able to have sponsors. UFC fighters are no longer allowed to wear sponsors inside the cage due to their exclusive deal with Reebok. Nelson revealed he used to get paid more by sponsors than he did by fighting.
“It was more I think of just understanding what’s better for my family,” Nelson said. “I went back and talked to my wife and then we kind of went from there and decided what we needed to do for quality of life, things that will improve our life from stress from the stuff that I’ve been through.”
